5+ Meg HAM Interlace Overscan animation.
This animation simulates the view from a spacecraft as it flies over a section
of the surface on Mars, demonstrating the use of the Applique function in
Imagine 2.9 to produce a 3D landscape from a 2D IFF overhead view image.
The 2D overhead view image was first converted to a 16 shade grayscale which
was used as a Flat X - Flat Z brushmap in the Applique function on a primitive
plane object to create the displacement object. The 2D image was then
applied to the object as a color brushmap in Attributes. I had to use the
Imagine default starfield since I have not developed a starfield object
yet. This is just a short test anim to show what can be done with the
Applique function. The quality of the object could be improved by using
more faces on the object and using 24-bit brushmaps. Since I only have an
ECS A3000, the 2D IFF is only 32 color EHB. This is also the reason for the
choice of HAM Interlace Overscan. I recommend using View 3.6 to view the
animation at F6 speed or BigAnim if you need to view it from the HD. If you
use this for some arcane purpose, please give me a little credit. If you
want more information about how this animation was made or the Imagine
staging file with the landscape object and the IFF, contact me through email
or leave me a message on the Imagine Mailing List.
