This is a small fix for music replay software such as AmigaAMP and for AHI intended mainly for GFX card users. If you don't have a GFX card read on anyway as it might be useful in some way I haven'
t thought of :-)

Background:

The Paula sound replay chip in all standard amigas runs at a rate determined by the rate at which the graphics chips are running. On OCS amigas this is fixed, so sound replay can only be played at
up to about 29kHz. For AGA and ECS users the maximum rate is abot 48kHz but only when using a Doublescan or VGA screenmode.
Those using GFX cards as their main workbench display often aren't running an ECS or AGA based display, and so are limited to the old 29kHz. This little program simply opens up a 1 bit (2 colour) sc
reen in DoubleScan to allow you to use higher rates including the standard CD and mp3 rate of 44.1kHz allowing for maximum quality replay possible with the standard amiga sound hardware.

Installation:

Please use the supplied installer script. If the fix is not installed correctly it may lock you out from your workbench screen (resolvable using LAmiga+M key combination).

Make sure if you're using OS3.1 or higher that you move the DBLPAL monitor icon from storage:monitors to Devs:monitors, if it is not already there.

I don't have an OS2.x or 3.0 machine to test this on, but it should work fine (hopefully)

If you have a TV or 15kHz monitor attached to the video outputs of the amiga, make sure they are either switched off or disconnected before use, as sending 31kHz signals through them may cause damag
e.

To remove the program, simply delete everything from ;BEGIN UpRate to ;END UpRate from the User-Startup file.

Problems:

You may experience strange behaviour when swapping screens, typically a loss of mouse control..
This is fixed simply by hitting LAmiga+M.

Source:

I haven't included the source as it's only 4 lines long and producing a copy of this fix would be very easy for almost any programmer.

Distribution:

This is freeware, as it is so easy to code that nobody would ever pay for it :-) It would be nice if you sent me a quick email to let me know if it works on your system though.
Distribute it as you like, but make sure you include the installer script as things are likely to go wrong withouut it. :-(

Disclaimer:

No warranties are made, express or implied, regarding the functionality or safety of the included software. If it does any damage I am not responsible. Use it at your own risk.

(It really isn't likely to do any damage though.)
