INTRODUCTION: squids and other cephalopods are animals that
can change their skin colors and patterns, according to their
mood, environnement or any other stimulus. Unlike chameleons,
the changes are instantaneous and rather impressive. The changes
are made with the help of colored cells called chromatophors,
which can suddenly swell or shrink, thus changing the whole
pattern of colors of the animal.
This simulator is a first attempt in representing this phenomenon.
USAGE: the user can change the number of colored cells (the
size of the output window is then computed). There are five
colors: black, white, red, green and blue. The cells are randomly
distributed in the output window. By clicking somewhere
in the output window, the nearest cell is activated and so are
all the cells of the same color.
NOTE: a better (and more complex) simulator would take advantage
of a neural network to change the pattern more precisely.
