Short: Win95/98 compatible file system Author: jaroslav.pulchart@gmail.com (Jaroslav Pulchart), based on work by Torsten Jager Uploader: jaroslav pulchart gmail com (Jaroslav Pulchart) Type: disk/misc Version: 20260930 Replaces: disk/misc/fat95.v20260911.lha Requires: AmigaOS 1.3+ (2.0+ for full functionality), a block device such as compactflash.device, ptable.library for auto-detect Architecture: m68k-amigaos >= 1.3 Kurz: Win95/98-kompatibles Dateisystem fat95 - Win95/98 compatible FAT filesystem handler for AmigaOS. Fork of disk/misc/fat95.lha. COMPONENTS IN THIS RELEASE ========================== - fat95 4.1 (30.09.2026) (new) - install95 3.19 (25.01.2026) - dd 2.6 (30.09.2026) (new) - debug95 3.19 (25.01.2026) - SetFileSize 1.1 (25.01.2026) - boot95 3.19 (25.01.2026) - lsfsres 1.2 (30.09.2026) (new) - ptable.library 2.1 (30.09.2026) (new) - lsptres 1.1 (30.09.2026) (new) WHAT'S NEW (30.09.2026) ======================= Filesystem handler 'fat95 4.1': * PARTITION NUMBERING CHANGED. CF: and FAT\ select the partition at that place in the partition table, as lsptres shows it in its Part column, instead of the n-th FAT partition: MBR primary slots 0 to 3 CF0: to CF3: FAT\1 to FAT\4 logical drives CF4:, CF5:, ... FAT\5, FAT\6, ... An empty or non-FAT slot keeps its number: a FAT partition in slot 1 after a Linux partition in slot 0 is now CF1:, where it was CF0:. Cards with FAT partitions in consecutive slots from the first mount as before; for others, rename the mountlist to the slot number. * A damaged FAT, such as a looped or out-of-range cluster chain, fails with "not a DOS disk" instead of hanging the handler or following the chain outside the volume. * A FAT read error while deleting or resizing a file is reported as a failure instead of success. * Fixed: a file cut to zero length with SetFileSize and then written again could keep using its freed clusters. * ROM-resident fat95 registers FAT\0 to FAT\12 in FileSystem.resource (up to FAT\8 before), so the DosType-byte scheme reaches logical drives up to CF11: / FAT\12. Tools 'dd 2.6': * The -- more -- prompt is shown in italic, reversed. Tools 'lsfsres 1.2': * The -- more -- prompt is shown in italic, reversed. Tools 'dd 2.5': * Nothing changes in use; the pausing of long output is now the same code lsfsres uses. Tools 'lsfsres 1.1': * The listing prints one screenful at a time; any key continues, Q stops. Redirected output is written in full. * The column headings line up with the columns, and a name too long for its column ends in "...". * The Version column reads as 47.4 rather than as the raw 002F0004. * Output lines end in LF alone. Purpose ======= "fat95" is a DOS handler to mount and use Win95/98 volumes just as if they were AMIGA volumes. System requirements =================== * every AMIGA, OS 1.3+ (OS 2.0+ for full functionality) * a suitable device file for low level disk access, like the mfm.device for floppies, compactflash.device for CF in PCMCIA * ptable.library (bundled; install to LIBS:) for partition auto-detect; explicit-geometry mountlist entries do not need it Features ======== See fat95.guide for full documentation. * Workbench and applications support * Diskchange autosense * Format type autosense: FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32 * MBR, GPT, and flat (whole-disk FAT) partition support * Simple LINUX style partition selection or manual definition * Up to 4 GBytes of partition size for FAT16 * Large harddisk support via TD64 or direct SCSI * Long filenames (up to 104 chars for now) * Inquiry, read, write, and maintenance access * Built-in error check utility * Disk formatting using the OS 2.0+ format command * MS-DOS 8.3 downward compatibility * User definable language and code page * Date range Jan 1st, 1980 through Dec 31st, 2107 * Extended datestamp support: creation date and time, last accessed date (readable as file comment text; off by default, Control "+d+D" enables) * Volume serial number as name for unnamed volumes * Automatic directory optimization * Written entirely in assembly language SOURCE CODE =========== Source code available at: https://github.com/pulchart/fat95 Licensed under GNU LGPL v2.1 SUPPORT ======= The improvements to this driver are developed in my free time.
