CHANGES
=======

This is the second release of the wwwcounter by Muhammad A. Muquit.
The binary distribution is recompiled with the Ixemul.library v47.
Some minor changes has been made in the sources. It runs more
stable now.

APACHE
------

The webcounter is now installed under the APACHE: assignment, no
need for the unix paths now.

AWS
---
It showed up that the Counter does not work with AWS, although it
should work. I was not able to find the cause of the problem yet.
If you find a solution, mail me!

MKSTRIP, make your own Counter digits!
--------------------------------------

With MKSTRIP you can make your own digits out of separated gif digit
images. Or use it to convince a webmaster of a counter site to use
it for you :) An example of a created digit style is added in the
Digits/F directory. Mkstrip is in the Counter/utils directory.

INTRODUCTION:
-------------

I am running for several years the webcounter at the digital city
of Delft (http://www.dsdelft.nl), a small but very old town in
the Netherlands. One of the best things of the Webcounter is the
configurability. You can decide how it looks, with or without a border,
different colours, different styles, custom made digits, etc.
The Webcounter is also able to display the time and the current date.
When I got involved in the Amiga Apache httpserver project
(http://www.dsdelft.nl/~apache) I immediately thought about porting the
Counter to the Amiga. So, I got the sources and started compiling.
To my surprise it compiled almost without faults (this shows the strenght
of the Ixemul.library!). I am running it now for several months without
too many problems. After compiling it with Ixemul 47 everything worked
more stable than before.

Requirements:
-------------

- ixemul.library v47 from http://www.ninemoons.com

- fileutils-3.15.lha from http://www.ninemoons.com

- static IP address. It is impossible to use it with a dynamic connection.

- Apache httpd from www.dsdelft.nl/~apache

Distribution:
-------------

This is the binary archive, the wwwcounter2.3 is pre-installed!

I have made a source distribution also, but that has one drawback, you must
compile it yourself with GCC. It's not too difficult to do, just
follow the instructions in the AMIGA INSTALL file. But if you don't have
GCC and/or don't want to install GCC, then you have to use this binary
distribution. You have the follow the instructions in the Amiga install
file precisely, especially the provided paths are important. Do not
change them! (They are compiled into the binary).

If the provided paths are not what you want, ask me for a custom made GCC
compilation. You can decide in which directory you want to have the counter.
A fee is asked in that case ($20 US dollars) to cover for my time. This
includes shipment (on disk or via e-mail) and additional help if you need
it. E-mail me for more information: counter@spinnewiel.xs4all.nl (though
I don't think that anyone will ever need it, read the docs carefully).
