Short: Modern real-time strategy, East vs West Author: Darko Djordjevic Uploader: Darko Djordjevic (darko djordjevic hotmail com) Type: game/demo Version: Demo 2 Requires: 68040+, ~36 MB free fast RAM, RTG recommended Architecture: m68k-amigaos >= 3.0.0 Distribution: Aminet URL: https://darkodj.itch.io/wwiii WWIII - a modern real-time strategy game for the classic Amiga ============================================================== WWIII is a real-time strategy game in the tradition of Command & Conquer and Dune II, set in a modern war between East and West. Build a base, pump oil, keep your army supplied and destroy the enemy on a battlefield with rivers, bridges, forests, villages, mountains and oil fields. This demo contains the classic battle: one full map against the computer, playable as either side, on Easy, Medium or Hard. FEATURES -------- - Two sides, East and West, each with its own units and buildings - Oil economy: pumps, refineries and tanker trucks - Ammunition supply with depots and supply trucks - Infantry, special forces, anti-tank teams, FPV drone operators, tanks, APCs, self-propelled artillery, rocket launchers, ballistic missiles, short- and long-range air defence, attack and transport helicopters, ground-attack jets, fighters, stealth fighters, drone trucks, strategic bombers, cruise missile salvoes and a space race for satellite reconnaissance - Bridges can be shelled and brought down, and engineers rebuild them - Infantry can take village houses and fire from the windows - Units gain experience: every ten kills earns a level, up to 9 - Aircraft that are shot down fall burning and crash - A computer opponent that builds and expands its base, scouts for oil, sends attack waves and air strikes and pulls damaged units back - Fog of war, smoke, fire, wrecks and ruins - Music and Paula sound effects - Save and load at any time (10 slots) TECHNICAL --------- - Written from scratch in C (VBCC) with 68k assembly for the hot paths - 640 x 480 in 256 colours on RTG (Picasso96 / CyberGraphX), with an AGA fallback - 2:1 isometric graphics: every unit, building and piece of terrain was modelled and pre-rendered in Blender, with shadows and per-pixel height maps, so units hide correctly behind buildings and mountains - Dirty-rectangle renderer, MOVE16 copies to video memory on 040/060 - A* path-finding with traffic rules - All graphics and music in one data file (WWIII.dat), loaded on demand where possible REQUIREMENTS ------------ Minimum: CPU: 68040 (it starts on a 68020/68030, but is too slow to play) OS: AmigaOS 3.0 or newer (Kickstart 3.0 / v39) Fast RAM: about 36 MB free when the game starts Chip RAM: 2 MB (A1200 / A4000) Graphics: AGA (works, but slowly) - an RTG card is strongly recommended Disk: 42 MB free Input: mouse and keyboard Recommended: CPU: 68060 (developed and tested on an A1200 with a Warp1260) Fast RAM: 64 MB or more Graphics: RTG card (Picasso96 or CyberGraphX), 640 x 480, 256 colours Emulation: WinUAE / FS-UAE with a 68060 (or JIT), 64 MB Z3 fast RAM, a UAEGFX RTG board and AmigaOS 3.x INSTALLATION ------------ lha x WWIII_Demo_2.lha Then start WWIII from the WWIII_Demo drawer. WWIII and WWIII.dat must stay together in the same drawer. HOW IT WAS MADE --------------- WWIII is a one-man project, developed with the assistance of AI as a coding partner. I designed the game, decided what goes in and tested every build on a real Amiga and in WinUAE; the AI helped with the C and 68k code, the tools and the graphics pipeline. The game itself runs entirely on the Amiga. WHAT COMES NEXT --------------- The full game will have a campaign for each side, 20 missions for East and 20 for West, with a story told between the missions, spoken mission briefings on a topographic map, and objectives such as destroying or capturing the enemy HQ, hunting down enemy forces against the clock, holding out until reinforcements arrive and ambushing enemy columns. FEEDBACK -------- I would love to hear how the demo runs on your machine. Please send your configuration (CPU, RAM, graphics card, OS version) together with any problems, ideas or impressions - on itch.io or the EAB forum. Thanks for playing, and thanks to everyone who keeps the Amiga alive! Darko Djordjevic
